atletico madrid vs club brugge: i’m still riding btts after that 3-3 chaos

…so after that 3-3 in Belgium, I’m not overthinking it. Simeone’s Atletico can still absolutely go into “manage the game” mode, but the numbers we’ve got here scream goals at both ends again.

Even more blunt, both teams scored in Atletico’s first four home Champions League games. That’s basically my whole handicap. Club Brugge aren’t coming here to park the bus either. They’ve got 15 scored and 17 conceded in their 8 games in the same dataset, and their Champions League goal profile is wild: 92% over 2.5. Away form in Europe is the obvious worry (they’ve lost three of their four away Champions League games), but even in losses they can nick one, especially with creators like Vanaken (3 assists) and Forbs (3 assists).

Here’s my issue with the straight Atletico win: they’re short, and Brugge have already proven they can hurt them. Atletico’s last six matches average 4.17 total goals with 83% landing over 2.5, and Brugge’s last six are also 83% over 2.5. I’m expecting another open game once the first goal goes in.

Team news matters too. Atletico are still without Pablo Barrios and Nico Gonzalez. Brugge lose Onyedika to suspension, and he had a goal and an assist in the first leg, so that’s a real hit. Still, I’m not sure it’s enough to kill their chance of scoring once.
